Work and Fun at YMCA Blue Ridge

HAHAHA! I don't know about the rest of you, but i loved reading comics as a child. Now I can Make my own! the program Comic Life seems like an excellent program to get children to engage on a project and be able to express creativity with a photo/image project. Depending on the nature of a given assignment the versatility of this program allows the child to express themselves in just about any manner that they wish. I'm still not totally comfortable with the program but considering that this is the result of an evening of work and on a trial windows version of the program, i'd say i'm pretty pleased with the outcome and the learning curve is easy enough that students could pick it up pretty quick! Probably optimal for 4th or 5th graders.
*srry if u have trouble reading it, i had to shrink it abit to get it on my blog.*

Hmmmm...

ok so i'm pretty sure i'm supposed to be posting in this more regularly. Alas, i don't seemed to be that organized. So, as a random update i've decided to tell you all that I highly recommend the anime "Haibane-Renmei" I know, I know. its cartoons, but in spite of that fact, it tends to be more serious and i believe that it raises some good questions that require some introspective thought. so if you find ur self in the mood, try to find this series.
'til next time, Au revoir.

Video Project: Eye of the Beholder

video

I think that this tool has a tremendous potential within K-12 classrooms. By making a video, students break down assignments, which I believe helps them to better understand the material that they are working with. For example while working with literature it can help them extract themes that they can apply not only to the literature and the time it was written but also makes it easier for them to apply to present day events. If kids enjoy working on computers at all, I would guess that most would really enjoy the opportunity to create a visual representation of their ideas and opinions of what is important about a topic or highlighting aspects of a topic that they find interesting. I know that in my own experience, once I get started, it’s almost addictive. I constantly want to tweak my videos and make it sync better with the audio. Personally, there is defiantly a lot more I could stand to learn about the Windows movie making program. Still I’m fairly comfortable using the program with my current knowledge and could probable demonstrate to another person how to use what I know how to do in the program.

Weekend Adventure

The following entery is the story of events that led up to and include my weekend adventure. It all starts with my mother who went to aa confrence in and during some free time, took a train to Denali National Park and told me all about it when she got home. Now i've heard of students visiting denali and having a really enjoyable experiance, so i've been contemplating goin to Denali for a while now, and have been looking to find a group of people goin down and visiting for the weekend. Now just as most stories have morals so does this one. This story's moral happens to be "CAREFUL WHAT U WISH 4!!!" Cuz heaven knows, you just might get it. So wouldn't you know it but i found a group of friends who were contemplating goin do denali last weekend. We left very late Friday nite (aka Saturday morning), stopped at a pull out a few miles away, talked for a while and were really hoping that the weather cleared up (it was pouring rain) and spent the remainder of the nite in the care. When we woke up, we immediatly noticed that the weather had not improved (it seemed worse) but decided to move on resigned to the fact that the weather wasn't going to get much better. So we started up the car and continued onward. We continued to laugh and joke along the way and we reached a rest area a ways inside the park. We got out explored for about 5 min before tireing of being out in the precipitation (it kept switching between rain, sleet, and hail) and got back in the car...which wouldn't start. i'll leave out the grusome details of what happend for the remainder of the day but we finally got a tow truck which ended up towing back to Fairbanks, due to the fact that it was still the end of tourist season and more economical to get towed back than find a place to stay till the starter was fixed on monday or tuesday. All said and done it was still a fun trip but turned out to be much more of an adventure than we had planned for (expensive too).
